Construction machinery and heavy vehicles worth millions of rupees of Public Works Department (PWD) have become redundant due to lying in the open for a long time.
Pak PWD, an attached department of Federal Ministry of Housing, carries out construction of mega government projects such as roads and buildings. To make the institution work on modern lines, modern machinery and vehicles were purchased by the last administration. However, the present administration allegedly has dumped these in the open in different PWD premises, as the authority has no use of them for the time being, according to sources.
The sources said the PWD high officials had been asked many times to auction the machinery to minimize the losses which had already occurred, but they fear corruption charges from the high officials.
