PM won’t be getting another adviser anytime soon

The Ministry of Law and Justice has reportedly rejected a federal proposal for the appointment of a sixth adviser to the prime minister.

The prime minister already has five advisors, including Sartaj Aziz (Foreign Affairs), Lt Gen (r) Nasir Janjua (National Security), Amir Muqam, Jam Mashooq Ali and Irfan Siddiqui and constitutionally cannot have more than five advisers.

The federal government has been facing problems, particularly in answering questions in Parliament in the absence of a permanent law minister, and it was decided to alleviate Special Assistant to Prime Minister Ashtar Ausaf Ali to Adviser on Law. The proposal in this regard had been forwarded to the Law Ministry. However, it was rejected since there is no provision in the Constitution for the appointment of a sixth adviser.
