Punjab Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal has directed health department and relevant authorities to enhance preparedness for dengue and ensure full implementation of SOP in this regard besides continuing vector surveillance and other anti-dengue activities in a vigorous manner.
He was presiding over a meeting regarding dengue control at Civil Secretariat here on Monday. Addressing the meeting, the chief secretary said that better planning and coordinated efforts are needed to control dengue. He said that there is need to work with national spirit for eradicating dengue once and for all. He said that awareness regarding dengue should be enhanced as people’s cooperation is of significant importance in the efforts to eradicate dengue. He said that all departments should play active role in this regard.
The chief secretary directed district coordination officers (DCOs) of Rawalpindi and Multan that keeping in view the last year’s experience, a better strategy be adopted to cope with dengue during current year and situation be monitored regularly. He also lauded performance of DCO Lahore regarding dengue control.
Special Secretary Health Ali Jan gave detailed briefing about the measures being taken to control dengue. The meeting was attended by Adviser on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique, Additional Chief Secretary Shumail Ahmad Khwaja, secretaries of Local Government, Health and other departments, DG Health Services, KEMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Faisal Masood, dengue expert Dr Waseem Akram and officers concerned.
