PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan Monday said that it is prerogative of the parliament to decide about the role of Pakistan in Saudi-Iran dispute, adding that Pakistan should not entangle in the row between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Talking to media on Lahore High Court premises, he said Pakistan’s taking side in the dispute could deteriorate internal situation in the country.

The PPP leader called for a joint session of the parliament to decide about the role of Pakistan in the dispute and not any government office.

The opposition parties have urged the government not to take sides in tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia after Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al Jubeir and Deputy Crown Prince and Defence Minister Mohammed bin Salman arrived in Islamabad and met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief Raheel Sharif.

Tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran soared over Shia cleric Nimr Al Nimr’s recent execution.
