Sweet home for Adiala juvenile offenders to be inaugurated this week: adviser

The Federal Ombudsman has finalised a jail reforms plan to establish sweet homes, libraries, education institutions for juvenile children of country’s 89 jails. Adviser to Federal Ombudsman Hafiz Ahsan Ahmed Khokar told APP that a Sweet Home having capacity to accommodate 50 juvenile prisoners would be inaugurated in Adiala Jail this week.

The recitation of some verses of the Holy Quran for an hour or so would be initiated soon in Adiala jail, he said.  The imprisoned children would be provided free books, food, uniform and legal aid.

He said that a Sweet Home has already been established in Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore. Free technical education facility would also be provided to women prisoners of Multan from this week onwards. Computer classes have already been initiated in Quetta jail.

The reforms project of zero cost is being implemented in collaboration with Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Punjab University, Comsats Institute of Information Technology, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
