The special teams of Sialkot health department sealed as many as 108 private hospitals and clinics for violation of Drugs Control Act and got registered as many as 11 separate cases against the accused quacks for doing illegal medical practices in various urban and rural parts of the district during the year 2015.
Sialkot District Coordination Officer (DCO) Dr Asif Tufail disclosed this while presiding over an important meeting of the District Quality Control Board, Sialkot.
On this occasion, Sialkot EDO (Health) Dr Javaid Warraich told the meeting that the special inspection teams of Sialkot health department inspected as many as 2,716 hospitals, clinics, medical laboratories , medical stores and pharmaceutical manufacturing units located in Sialkot district’s all the four Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils during the year 2015.
These teams sent 676 samples of different drugs to Drugs Testing Laboratory Lahore, besides, sending 14 such cases to Punjab Quality Control Board and 273 cases to District Quality Board Sialkot for further action during the last year.
The EDO added that as many as 128 challans of the private clinics, hospitals and medical stores were sent to the Drugs Court Lahore for trial during 2015.
Out of which, the Drugs Court had fined Rs 0.9 million in 33 different cases in this regard.
The EDO narrated that the stern legal action was taken against as many as 205 accused owners of the private clinics and hospitals for selling the expired and prohibited there in Sialkot district during 2015.
Addressing the meeting, DCO Dr. Asif Tufail directed the senior officials of Sialkot health department to take stern legal action against all those without any indiscrimination found violating the Drugs Control Act, saying that the quacks had been playing with the precious lives of the people.
