KP govt approves Rs 60 bln urban uplift programme

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved communication schemes of Rs 60 billion for the whole province this year; no new road schemes will be considered until the ongoing projects are completed, said KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak.

However, he said that roads in Chitral city would be improved in the current financial year as local roads of all major cities are being rehabilitated under the urban uplift programme.

Talking to representative delegation of Chitral, the chief minister announced that people living in natural calamities-prone areas of Chitral would be given residential plots in the proposed housing colony to be established at a safer place.

Officials from the departments dealing with rehabilitation of earthquake and flood-hit areas of Chitral were also present during the meeting with the Chitral delegation led by MPA Fauzia Bibi.

The chief minister said that he had issued orders for setting up a university in Chitral and the concerned departments were supposed to expedite progress on this project which would help people living in remote areas of Chitral district to have higher education facilities in their home district.

He assured that roads in Chitral as well as other earthquake and flood-affected infrastructure facilities would be rehabilitated at any cost and on priority basis. He said that a donors’ conference had been held by the provincial government for rehabilitation projects of the devastated Chitral district. The chief minister assured to visit Chitral for reviewing the uplift and rehabilitation projects. He said that he had also directed three concerned provincial ministers to visit Chitral to listen to the problems of the people and take necessary measures to solve them. Explaining the provincial government’s strategy regarding development projects, he said that only those schemes would be initiated which can be completed within the stipulated time and for which required financial resources are available.

Pervez Khattak also sought a progress report on Chitral University, Qaqlasht Housing Scheme, Irrigation Water Channel, Atakhalt-Wirinjune Road, Ayun-Bamburit Road, Chitral-Garam Chashma Road, Rescue 1122 Service, Working Women Hostel, Repair of Reshun Hydro Power Station and certain other projects of Chitral.
