Govt mulling to get back bullet-proof Mercedes from ex-CJP

The Federal government is considering getting back a bullet-proof vehicle provided to former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Chaudhary.

The bullet-proof Mercedes was provided to the former CJP on the order of Islamabad High Court after his retirement from service initially for 89-days, which is still in his use.

Iftikhar Chaudhary has entered politics by launching his party on 25 December 2015.

The government has been mulling that if it allows Chaudhary to keep the bullet-proof Mercedes then it will have to provide such vehicles to the heads of some 266 other political parties registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan in the name of security, which will not be possible.

According to official sources, the Justice and Law Division are expected to forward a summary to the Prime Minister office through the cabinet division for approval for taking back the bullet-proof Mercedes from the former CJP.
