The US consul general in Lahore made a visit to the shrine of Lahore’ patron saint Data Darbar recently.

The diplomat was geared out in local, Pakistani shalwar-kameez and waistcoat and wore a Pashtun pakol for a hat. Accompanying him was the League’s Bilal Yasin, who chose to wear a western suit.

At the shrine, the American even paused to pray, with hands held high. One wonders what, exactly, he was praying for. Data Sahib, in his encompassing love, is undiscriminating, after all.

It appears that Geo has decided to shelf two programmes that it had shot with the former national bhabi.

One was her appearance in Aamir Liaquat’s show. The other, her appearance on Khabarnaak, where the resident whip-smart mimic (the best in the country, it must be said) was channelling Imran Khan.

Both, specially the second one, would have made for fabulous viewing. Well, it appeared the channel authorities thought that it would appear to be gunning for the PTI chief, an impression the channel is trying to dispel. He did, after all, turn his guns on the channel for much less.

Speaking of the PTI chairman, it appears he wants to try his hand at international diplomacy. The leader doesn’t hold any official office but wants to help in brokering some sort of peace between Saudi Arabia and Iran. He’s been meeting the two countries’ ambassadors.

A strange thing to want to do when one is in opposition; that, too, independently. One is glad he wasn’t accompanied by Shireen Mazari in these meetings, but the more sober Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
