Traders protest as TMA launches anti-encroachments operation in Rawalpindi

Traders on Saturday took to the streets at Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) and launched an operation against illegal encroachments in the city.

The TMA staffers reached Raja Bazar, the city’s main trading hub, for removing encroachments; they were met with resistance and arguments from the traders and vendors.

Then the traders took to the roads, started burning tyres and chanted slogans against the district government.

They protestors alleged that the TMA employees disturbed their business activities in the operation against encroachments despite receiving extortion money every month. The protest badly disrupted the flow of traffic at Committee Chowk and Raja Bazar.

Police, however, dispersed the protesters peacefully.
