Reached out to a few 1D members, didn’t get a reply: Zayn Malik

Ex-One Direction member Zayn Malik has confessed that he tried reaching out to his former band members but didn’t get a reply from a few of them because they have “pride issues”.

The 22-year-old, who quit 1D eight months ago, revealed in an interview with Billboard that after his split from the band, he hasn’t been able to get in touch with a few of the band members.

“The truth of it is,” he says carefully, “you can think one thing about a situation and the total opposite can happen. I had every intention of remaining friends with everybody, but I guess certain phone numbers have changed and I haven’t received calls from a lot of people.”

“I’ve reached out to a few of them but haven’t gotten a reply. Certain people have pride issues, but its stuff you overcome with time,” Zayn was quoted as saying.

He may have parted from his friends and the band, but Zayn admits that he “genuinely enjoyed [1D] and did whatever I could to be myself within that”.

However, he was at cross roads when he was a part of One Direction. “It’s just not where I sit as a musician,” said the singer. “The other boys’ taste was generally indie rock. its good music, but it was never cool where I was from.”

Asked whether he gave the band’s latest album Made in the A.M. a listen, he admitted that he hadn’t heard it. “Nah,” he says. “I’ll be honest. I thought the first single was quite cool. I heard the second single and… yeah, I didn’t buy the album.”

The singer didn’t only call it quits with the band, soon after the split he and his ex-fiancé Perrie Edwards parted ways, and he has since been spotted [and snapped] with model Gigi Hadid. The pair recently posted apicture on Instagram, looking comfortable together.

“I like girls that are a bit chunky in certain areas – the nice areas. I like a fuller woman,” he was quoted as saying. “I enjoy an intellectual conversation as well, where someone can construct a sentence beyond what hair and makeup they’re wearing, and talk about something political or about the world. I like an opinion.”

On the professional front, Zayn is gearing up for the release of his first solo album due early this spring.
