Salman inaugurates website for Parkinson patients at LGH

Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that 20 successful operations of Parkinson through a modern method of deep brain stimulation in a year are a big achievement of Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood and surgeons of Lahore General Hospital.

He said that launching of websitewww.dbspakistan.com for the provision of information about the DBS method of treatment to medical experts and general public will not only be useful for such patients but will also be helpful in starting medical tourism in Pakistan. He said this while inaugurating website about the DBS treatment method at PGMI on Friday.

Rafique said that in the light of the directions of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, health and education have special importance in the priorities of provincial government and all possible funds are being provided for the research about modern treatment method. He said Mahmood has created a new challenge for his counterparts by launching a unique website in government sector. Medical Superintendent General Hospital Niaz Ahmed, Assistant Prof Dr Shahid Mukhtar, AMS Dr Shahid Mayo and other doctors were also present on the occasion. Rafique said that this function is a unique of its kind for us all that for the first time in the history of the country that a doctor has set a new tradition by uploading all kind of information about modern treatment method at website. He said that by launching of this website, the name of Mahmood and LGH will be written in golden words in the history of medical profession. Rafique said the Punjab government is paying special attention to the provision of modern treatment facilities and uplift of health sector. He said that under the Chief Minister Health Sector Roadmap Programme, 700 basic health units have been upgraded to the modern centres of treatment where facility of 24 hours labour room has been provided. He said that comprehensive steps have been taken for ensuring presence of specialist doctors, availability of medicines and provision of necessary medical equipments at district and tehsil headquarters hospitals.

Khalid Mahmood said that spreading research and experiences for the modern treatment method of the diseases causing threats to human health is a great service. He said that launching of website is aimed at benefiting experiences of each other for the treatment and further promoting this tradition. He stressed the need of creating maximum awareness among the people about the preventive measures. He said that the people associated with medical profession should take regular steps in this regard.

Salman Rafique while talking to media on the occasion said that about Rs 10 million are spent on DBS procedure abroad but Mahmood and his surgeons have facilitated the patients in Pakistan by ensuring such operations at one fourth expense at LGH. Rafique said that DBS procedure of a number of patients were conducted through financial assistance by Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and now they are living better life.
