Pregnant woman’s murderer turns out to be the husband

CIA Police have arrested the murderer of a pregnant woman who was killed during a robbery near Sundar Das Road in December last year, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Capt (r) Muhammad Amin Wains told reporters on Friday.

According to reports, a murder case had been lodged against unidentified robbers-cum-murderers on the complaint of Muhammad Usman on December 29 after his spouse Amna succumbed to her gunshot wound at a local hospital. The baby girl, Amna gave birth to, also died two days later.

The gruesome killing had drawn the attention of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif who had issued strict orders for the arrest of the killer(s).

As investigators started digging deep and broadened the scope of investigations, it turned out that the woman’s murderer was none other than her husband, who had told police that his wife had been fired upon by unidentified robbers for putting up resistance while they were trying to snatch her jewelery.

During investigations, Usman confessed to killing his wife while she was changing a CD in the car they were travelling by. According to him, he shot Amna in the head with a pistol he had purchased for Rs 25,000 some time back.

The accused told his investigators that he was not happy over his marriage with Amna since she was not his first choice. Besides, he added, they often used to quarrel with each other and he just wanted to get rid of her. He said he shot Amna and later portrayed the incident as a robbery. He added that he had hatched this plot two days before Amna’s murder.

Meanwhile, CCPO Capt (r) Muhammad Amin Wains has commended DIG Investigation Chaudhry Sultan, SSP Investigation Mushtaq Sukhera, Civil Lines SP Investigation Irfan Sammu and CIA SSP Umar Virk over the arrest of the killer of Amna.
