The Sindh High Court on Friday granted bail to Muttahida Qaumi Movement leaders Waseem Akhtar and Haider Abbas Rizvi in several cases.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Sadiq Hussain Bhatti heard a petition, in which the lawyer of MQM leaders Waseem Akhtar and Haider Abbas Rizvi told the court that one case was registered against Waseem Akhtar over former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain’s statement while 24 cases have been registered against him for facilitating party leader Altaf Hussain’s speeches.
The lawyer said that Haider Abbas Rizvi and Waseem Akhtar have been nominated in three cases, adding that the details of FIR are same so his clients should be granted bail for arrest.
The court granted Waseem Akhtar bail in 25 cases and Haider Abbas Rizvi in three cases and adjourned the hearing until January 22.
Issuing of non-bailable warrants has become more of a ceremonial. Bail in 24 cases ? Who will believe in the Judicial system of this country ? Our Judiciary has been blamed for 'corruption' by none other but a former Chief Justice of Pakistan ! If the courts of a country are not properly functioning – nothing else is, said Wiston Churchil.
