The legislators on Friday urged the government to take the parliament into confidence on all the national issues for strengthening democratic norms in the country.

Opening the debate, Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) leader, Dr Arif Alvi said that the parliament would be further strengthened, if it was in the loop on all national issues.

Alvi expressed the concern that the National Action Plan (NAP) would fail as it was not a good fit for our criminal justice system.

He said that the government should take back the money looted and shifted abroad and take concrete steps to control corruption in the country.

The lawmaker said that agriculture was the back bone of the country and the government was not giving proper attention to this sector.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) member Shazia Marri said that parliamentarians should discuss and play their role to restore the original constitution which had been amended by the dictators.

She said that China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) should be implemented as it was decided in the all parties meeting, adding that PPP wanted to support the government on the project.

Marri urged the government to convene the meeting of Council of Common Interest (CCI) immediately to discuss all the issues with provincial governments.

The legislator said that the parliament was the best forum to discuss the challenges being faced by the country and to present a united front.

Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Jaffer Iqbal said that due to concrete efforts of the government, peace was being restored in Karachi and other parts of the country.

Criticising the PPP led government, he said the previous government had not initiated a single project to overcome energy crisis in the country.

Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Sheikh Salahud Din said that parliament should be taken into confidence on all the national issues.

The MQM leader paid tribute to the armed forces for their role in restoring peace in the country through operation Zarb-e-Azb.

Sheikh Salahud din urged the government to conduct census which he said was necessary for the solidarity of the country.
