Islamabad schools to be made role model for whole country, says minister

Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CA&DD) Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, has said that Prime Minister’s Education Transformation Plan for Islamabad will be a role model for the whole country.

According to press release, he stated this while chairing a consultative meeting with International Development Partners in Islamabad on Thursday.

Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary said that the PM’s vision is to make the Islamabad education system a role model for the whole country including Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The minister of state stressed upon the need to introduced new ideas and models for development of educational infrastructure. This is first time in the history of Pakistan that Montessori, pre-school education system is being introduced in the public sector schools, he continued.

He informed that initially montessori will be introduced in five schools and expend to other school in the second phase.

Director General, Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and Director General, Special Education briefed the meeting about the education system of ICT, and identified areas where development partners can contribute.

This consultative meeting was first of its nature where expert opinions of international development partners is sought to benefit from. Representatives from USAID, DFID, JICA, WFP, Canadian Program Cooperation in Pakistan and others participated in the meeting.

It was observed that there was a need to create synergy among the various programs to get maximum benefits out of these programs.

Dr. Tariq appreciated the contribution of International Development partners in Pakistan and said that government is introducing a complete reform program for Islamabad which other provinces can replicate for themselves.

He said that to provide better transport facility to students of all 422 schools and colleges of the 200 new buses are being purchased. Biometric attendance for teachers and students is being introduced and new science and IT labs are being developed.

The Minister urged the international partners to come up with their ideas and expertise. He invited international cooperation in developing all these facilities. The Minister of State emphasized that provision of trained Montessori teacher and training of teacher for Montessori would be the most vital contribution at this stage.  “No nation can compete in today’s world of rapidly changing technologies and innovations without equipping its youth with modern and state of the art education”, the Minister of State concluded.
