Prime Minister Health Insurance Scheme will soon be launched in Punjab and in the first phase, 1,287,000 families of four districts Narowal, Khanewal, Sargodha and Rahim Yar Khan will benefit from free treatment facilities.
The annual limit of under treatment patient in the hospital for medical and surgical treatment of general diseases will be 50 thousand rupees while annual limit for the treatment of chronic diseases including cardiac, diabetes, cancer, liver and kidney will be two lakh and fifty thousand rupees per family. Provision of medicines for five days after discharge from the hospital will also be included in the health insurance coverage.
This was disclosed in a meeting presided over by Minister of State for Health Saira Afzal Tarar at Civil Secretariat.
Advisor on Health Kh.Salman Rafique, Provincial Finance Minister Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Federal Secretary Health Muhammad Ayub Sheikh, Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah, Chief Operating Officer Punjab Healthcare Commission Dr.Ajmal Khan, Additional Secretary Ejazul Haq as well as representatives of NADRA and State Life Insurance Company attended the meeting. Punjab Government will extend financial cooperation in Health Insurance Scheme for which government will have to bear expenses of billion of rupees.
The meeting was told that on the direction of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Health Insurance Scheme has been started in Islamabad and in the first phase, Muzaffarabad, Quetta, Rahimyar Khan, Khyber Agency, Sargodha, Lasbela, Kotli, Bajor Agency, Narowal, Loralai, Sakardu, Khanewal, Kach and Diamir are included. Backward and poor districts have been selected for Prime Minister Health Insurance Scheme for which database of Benazir Income Support Programme has been benefitted. The meeting was told that the registration of poor families has been started with the help of NADRA in federal capital and issuance of Health Insurance Cards has been started. State Life Insurance Company has approved panels of hospitals in all concerned cities.
