The Supreme Court (SC) while setting aside a decision of the election tribunal had ordered re-polling in constituency PS-76 Dadu in Sindh

Perveen Junejo had resigned after having been elected as MPA from the constituency and the election tribunal had declared Liaqat Jatoi winning candidate as being runner-up.

A three-member SC bench headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar strongly criticised the election tribunal verdict and wondered that who made Nowsherwan a judge and head of the tribunal. “He calls himself a doctor but doesn’t have knowledge of the law,” the SC observed.

“The runner-up in the polls was declared winner. It is our bad luck that such people are sitting in the election tribunal. Polls are aimed at bringing to fore the people’s aspirations and wishes,” the court observed.

The court remarked that tribunals should give decisions according to law. The court while nullifying the election tribunal’s decision ordered for re-polling in the constituency. The court also directed the election commission to issue election schedule for the said constituency.
