Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Punjab Power Development Company Limited (PPDCL) for purchasing 2.82 MW of electricity.
An MoU signing ceremony was held at MEPCO Headquarters in which MEPCO CEO Fazalullah Durrani and PPDCL Chief Executive Officer Ahsan Majeed signed the agreement.
MEPCO CEO Fazalullah Durrani said that the federal government was working on war-footing to overcome the energy crisis. He said that construction of small hydel projects on canals from the provincial governments would be helpful in eradicating the energy crisis.
He said that work was also in progress for generating electricity through water, coal, gas, LNG, wind and solar sources and hoped that the energy crisis would end in the upcoming year.
PPDCL CEO Ahsan Majeed said that Punjab government was constructing 2.82 MW hydel electricity project at Pak-Pattan link canal. He said that the generated electricity from this project would be provided to MEPCO. The electricity from Pak-Pattan canal would be added to the system through a 132 KV grid station in Pak-Pattan. He added that Rs 82 million would be spent for spreading the 14 km transmission line.
