The Customs court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of currency smuggling case against model Ayyan Ali till January 26 without recording statements of witnesses.

As Customs Judge Rana Aftab Khan resumed the hearing, he was apprised by Ayyan’s counsel Shaista that her client had challenged her indictment by the Customs court before high court. Since all the case record had been sent to the high court, therefore, statements of the witnesses could not be recorded, she added.

She told the court that senior lawyer Latif Khosa would argue on the petition challenging registration of a money laundering case against her client, who could not attend the hearing due his other engagements.

The judge remarked that the case had been under trial for the last 10 months and directed that the arguments must be given on next date of hearing. Upon this, lawyer Shaista submitted an affidavit that her (Ayyan’s) counsel would present arguments on January 26.

Model Ayyan Ali and nine witnesses were present in the court.

It may be mentioned that the model was arrested by the Customs officials at BenazirBhutto International Airport (Islamabad) with half a million dollars for allegedly trying to smuggle the foreign currency abroad.

  1. Perhaps 30th time she is appearing and NO solution ! Mr Khosa is shamelessly making fool of this poor girl even if there are many powerful behind this scandal. By the way, what about the other 24 'money-mules' pointed out by Dr Asim of PPP, also under arrest for gross corruption. He is sitting on a Pandora-box even Mr 10% is afraid of. The people want to know who are the 'sponsors' of these 25 'money-mules' busy siphoning billions of dollars out of the country.
