The customs court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of currency smuggling case against model Ayyan Ali till 26 January without recording statements of witnesses.

As customs Judge Rana Aftab Khan resumed the hearing, he was apprised by Ayyan’s counsel Shaista that her client had challenged her indictment by the Customs court before High Court. Since all the case record had been sent to the HC, therefore, statements of the witnesses could not be recorded, she added.

She told the court that senior lawyer Latif Khosa would argue on the petition challenging registration of a money laundering case against her client, who could not attend the hearing due his other engagements.

The judge remarked that the case had been under trial for the last 10 months and directed that the arguments must be given on next date of hearing. Upon this, lawyer Shaista submitted an affidavit that Ayyan’s counsel would present arguments on January 26.

Model Ayyan Ali and nine witnesses were present in the court.
