The Sindh Court (SHC) on Monday stayed the demolition of some houses lying in the site map of Lyari Expressway and summoned the Karachi’s Central district deputy commissioner along with record.
An SHC bench, headed by Chief Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, was hearing the petition filed by the affectees of Lyari Expressway against the proposed demolition of their houses, although the verdict of the referee judge on the issue is yet to come.
In their petition, as many as 50 petitioners, residents of Liaqatabad, Teen Hatti and Angara Goth areas, submitted that they had been told by the authorities that their houses were lying within the ambit of the project’s land and for the completion of the project, their houses would be demolished.
The affectees submitted that the Supreme Court had already directed the authorities not to demolish the houses before the verdict of the referee judge which was still awaited. They further contended that demolition of their houses would be a violation of the apex court’s decision.
During Monday’s hearing, the court restrained the authorities from razing the houses till the verdict was delivered. The court also directed the Karachi’s Central district deputy commissioner to appear before the court along with relevant record.
