India is disturbed over Sri Lanka’s move to buy JF-17 Thunder fighter jets from Pakistan instead of purchasing jets from Russia as India wanted.
Sri Lankan media reported on Tuesday that the country had shown interest in the purchase of JF-17 Thunder aircraft which was created with Pakistan-China collaboration.
JF-17 Thunder is cheaper than United States (US) fighter jets. Sri Lanka has expressed the intention of buying seven jets from Pakistan. It will be the first country to purchase JF-17s from Pakistan. Authorities have said that the order will be ready by the end of 2017.
Earlier, the aircraft’s developers, Aviation Industry Corp of China and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, signed a contract with a buyer on the sidelines of Dubai Airshow. About 1,100 exhibitors from more than 60 countries participated in the show.
On December 28, 2015, a spokesperson for the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) said that Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) had achieved its annual production goal.
In a statement, the spokesperson said that the authorities had decided to increase aeronautical complex’s production capabilities.
