Bara Bazaar reopens after eight years

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Saradar Mehtab Ahmed Khan on Monday formally reopened Bara Bazaar in Khyber Agency after eight years.

The bazaar had remained closed due to unrest in the agency.

The governor who drove to the agency along with media personnel performed groundbreaking ceremony of municipal committee and inaugurated municipal services in Bara. Upon arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the local elders.

He said that with an amount of Rs 1 billion, a modern bazaar would be built while a state-of-the-art industrial estate would also be constructed on an area of 1600 kanals, adding that foreign investors would also be invited to invest there.

The governor said that in first phase an amount of Rs 780 million would be released and that a by-pass road from Bara to Matini and Torkham is being constructed, which would link the area with Central Asian States.

The governor said that repatriation of Siph tribe of Afridis’ clan would start from January 12 and Bara Industrial Centre would be opened from February 1.

He said that the government, keeping in view the tribal people’s sacrifices for the country and for elimination of terrorism, was committed to providing all possible facilities to them.

He said that respectful repatriation of temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) is the top priority of the government and no stone would be left unturned to ensure resettlement of displaced people in their respective areas.

The governor said that a huge amount of Rs 9.3 billion had been allocated for development in Khyber Agency.

He said that terrorism is an international issue and Pakistan being a frontline state is ready to wipe out the menace of terrorism, no matter what name it carried – Daesh, Al-Qaeda or TTP.

  1. It is a good news and bad news. Good because locals will have an opportunity to prosper and bad because a lot of smuggled goods, arms and drugs will return.
