LHC issues notice on bail plea of former chief PSGPC

A Lahore High Court division bench on Monday issued notices to quarters concerned and official prosecution department for January 5 on a bail application filed by Sardar Mastan Singh, former chief of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC).

The bench headed by Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu heard the post-arrest bail application filed by Mastan Singh.

During the hearing, Mastan’s counsel arguing before the court submitted that the police had registered a case against his client and others under Sections 295, 123-A, 440, 506, 186 and 147 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), for allegedly being involved in desecrating temple.

He contended that the allegations levelled against his client were baseless. He pleaded the court to grant benefit of bail to his client for being innocent.

However, complainant’s counsel told the court that case investigation had been transferred to the Counter Terrorism Department.

He pleaded the court to delay its decision on application till completion of the investigation.

The bench after hearing initial arguments issued notices to the government and prosecution department for January 5 and sought reply.

Nankana Police had registered a case against Sardar Mastan Singh and others on an application of Sardar Sham Singh – the sitting chairman of the PSGPC.

LHC issues notice to PEMRA: The Lahore High Court Monday issued a notice to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) in connection with airing immoral drams and films by a private television channels.

The court has also sought report from the authority regarding the measures so far taken in this regard.

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijazul Ahsan heard the application regarding airing of immoral drams and films on private TV channels. The applicant Zahiruddin has argued in his application that airing immoral drams and films on private television channels was the violations of PEMRA laws.

He prayed the court to issue order and take action against the authority concerned. On this, LHC CJ issued notice to PEMRA for two weeks and also sought report from the authority.
