Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said on Sunday that the Karachi operation would continue till complete elimination of terrorism from the city.
He said the provincial government wanted the Rangers to continue the operation till its logical end and it had always cooperated with the federal government in this regard. The federation, he hoped, would not ignore its point of view on the matter.
Talking to senior journalists at the Chief Minister House, Qaim Ali Shah said his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had been promising while all issues (regarding the operation) would be discussed with Minister for Interior Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan who would soon visit the provincial capital.
The chief minister said that the Rangers were given exclusive powers and mandate and the provincial government wanted the law enforcement agency to continue the operation in accordance with its given mandate.
He said he had heard the news of arrest of Islamic State (IS) operatives in Punjab. An effective action should be taken against all terrorist groups, including the IS, wherever they might be, he stressed.
THREE KILLED, 9 SUSPECTS ARRESTED
At least three persons were shot dead in separate incidents of firing while Rangers arrested nine suspects in different operations in the city on Sunday.
According to police sources, some unidentified assailants gunned down a man in Defence area. The deceased was identified as Irfan. The suspected armed men opened fire at a shop in Neelum Colony, killing Haider Ali, while Ibrahim was shot dead at a public call office in Qayyumabad area. Meanwhile, Rangers continued operation in many areas of the city and arrested nine suspects.
According to a Rangers spokesperson, the arrested accused included terrorists and members of gang war and militant groups. Various weapons, including a submachine gun (SMG), were also recovered from the suspects.
The arrested accused were shifted to an undisclosed place for interrogation.
