A firefighter at the scene of a huge fire at a luxury Dubai hotel has emerged as the son of the ruler of United Arab Emirates.

Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed al-Maktoum, son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Dubai, was pictured in uniform among other Dubai Civil Defence officers outside the Address Hotel.

The photo, taken by a photographer at Gulf News, was posted on Twitter and shared by a journalist from the paper after which it started making rounds on social media.

Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed al-Maktoum is among the 23 children of Dubai’s ruler.

A huge fire ripped through a luxury Dubai hotel on December 31, near the world’s tallest tower, where people were gathering to watch New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Images aired on the al Arabiya news channel showed a high-rise building with fire engulfing dozens of storeys. Dubai authorities said earlier on Thursday that they had deployed thousands of security personnel to ensure visitors and residents could enjoy the New Year’s festivities safely. Firefighters worked throughout the night to extinguish the fire, which led to the injuries of 14 people.

According to his Twitter page, Sheikh Mansoor is the Chairman of Dubai International Marine Sports Club. His Instagram page also shows him in military uniform.

Many took to Twitter, lauding his efforts.
