Singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was deported from India’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) Hyderabad on Thursday.

Rahat had arrived India’s Hyderabad to perform at a New Year eve event at the iconic Taj Falaknuma Palace.

He was denied entry on “technical flaws”. Indian immigration rules say any Pakistani national can’t enter India through Hyderabad; the legal ports of entry by air are Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

If a Pakistani national enters through any other airport except the four metros, his or her travel to India cannot be recorded. So it is mandatory that they stick to the four ports. This system has been put in place to monitor the movement of Pakistani nationals in and out of the country.

Rahat was hence asked to return to Abu Dhabi and return to India from one of the legal ports of entry.

Later in the evening, Rahat Fateh Ali took a flight to Delhi from Abu Dhabi and then boarded a chartered flight to Hyderabad from the national capital.

The concert initially scheduled for 8pm was rescheduled for 11pm therefore.

  1. Why only male Pakistani(Muslim) artists are coming to India? Very intelligent strategy. In India also any event arranged for inter religious understanding is being attended by only males of Muslim community.
