The Nanbais, who had raised price of chapatti by Rs2 recently, have threatened to increase it price to Rs3 per roti in various areas of the Rawalpindi city and Cantonment areas in the wake of low gas pressure.
Severe gas shortage has forced citizens to resort to tandoors to buy chapatti and roti. Naanbhais claim that due to low gas pressure, they use fire wood, LPGs and coal to run tandoors which costs them heavily.
“We have to purchase coal at a cost of Rs60 to Rs70 per kilograms and LPG cylinders for about Rs5,000 to Rs7,000 every month besides the gas bills between Rs15,000 to Rs20,000. It has become almost impossible for us to run our business after paying salaries to our workers,” Aslam Khan, a tandoor owner in the Cantt area said.
The Nanbais have demanded that they be provided gas at subsidized rates; otherwise, they will be forced to enhance the prices.
