‘Civic bodies fleeced pensioners to secure ruling party’s victory’

Government departments used development funds as well as funds allocated for welfare and pension of government employees to ensure success for ruling party candidates in local bodies (LB) polls, sources claimed on Tuesday.

Sources said that Rawal town municipal administration spent development funds of Rs 100 million earmarked for one year. Pothohar town municipal administration spent over Rs 300 million of funds in the polls.

Rawalpindi waste management company also utilised funds of billion of rupees to improve sanitation condition in Rawalpindi in the run up to the polls.

These departments did not deposit pension contributory funds of their retired employees with city district government and later suspended payment of pension to retired employees on the pretext of lack of funds. The retired employees of these departments have still not been paid their pension.
