The Ministry of Interior has facilitated the deployment of ground surveillance radars at major points along the Pak-Afghan border to detect human movement and check the reported infiltration of terrorists coming into Pakistan.

As part of measures to check and control movement of terrorists and undesired persons into Pakistani territory, official sources on Tuesday said the construction of 453km of obstacles (an Anti Smuggling Ditch) has been developed to check human and vehicle movement.

Sources said that the management and control of Pak-Afghan border was the joint responsibility of all Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and in pursuance of the objective to control the border from the Pakistan side, KP and Balochistan Frontier Corps have also taken some steps. The steps include conducting frequent combat patrols along the Pak-Afghan border, intelligence based operations against suspected miscreants and installation of searchlights at important crossing sites.

The other major steps included deployment of communication posts on important communication links/roads to check illegal immigrants/miscreants, laying of ambushes on unfrequented routes, search of abandoned/suspicious places/houses and strict checking of personals/vehicles at crossing points.

With regard to role of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the sources said that FIA laws are being extended to Torkham while the Asian Development Bank (ADB) assisted project -Integrated Transit Trade Management System (ITTMS) is under process to help establish a Land Port at Torkham and Chaman.
