Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister Ms Sharmila Faruqui chaired a meeting regarding arrangements and preparations of the second international sufi conference at Directorate Culture, Karachi.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Abdul Kareem Solangi, Secretary Auqaf Department Riaz Ahmed, Director General Culture Manzoor Hussain Kanasro, Secretary Endowment Fund Trust Hameed Akhund, Director Mohatta Palace Nasreen Askari, Dean SMIU Dr Aurangzeb, Pro-Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University Dr Noor Ahmed, Dr Aslam Pervaiz, Dr Ghulam Ali Allana, Dr Nawaz Ali Shouq, Shafeequr Rehman Paracha and Aslam Pervaiz Memon.
The meeting discussed different issues and objectives for the second international sufi conference expected to be held in March 2016 at Karachi.
DG Culture Manzoor Kanasro presented an overview of the last sufi conference held in October 2014 and asked about the recommendations, advice and proposals for the betterment of this event as compared to the previous one.
Faruqui informed that the culture and tourism department was holding this conference at a time when law and order situation had improved and stabilised.
She said: “We need to mobilise youth in such events to promote the message of tolerance and peace.” She acknowledged that mystic thoughts were need of the hour.
She informed that the committee would be formed for finalisation of different segments, theme and guest participants and speakers not only from Pakistan but all over the world. The committee will meet on weekly basis to devise a policy and finalise the plans.
