A Lahore High Court division bench on Tuesday adjourning hearing of bail application filed by Shaheen Air pilot Asmat Mehmood till January 13 sought reports of Flight Safety Commission and flight data.
The two member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan heard the matter.
During the hearing, pilot’s counsel submitted that aircraft crash landing was an accident. He said that police had completed investigation from the accused and he had been sent to jail on judicial remand.
He pleaded the court to grant benefit of the bail to his client.
However, Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) counsel opposed the request and pointed out that reports of Flight Safety Commission and flight data were still awaited.
At this, the bench adjourned the hearing till January 13 observing that the matter could not be decided without going through the said reports. The court directed respondents to submit the reports by next hearing.
Sarwar Road police had registered a case against the pilot under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act on CAA’s complaint.
At least 10 passengers were injured when the plane crash-landed.
Carrying 121 passengers and crew, the plane reportedly touched down heavily causing its tyres to burst and skid off the runway. Passengers suffered minor injuries when hand-carry luggage in overhead cabinets fell on them.
