The Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking directions to restrain Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from including fast bowler Muhammad Amir in Pakistan squad for upcoming cricket series in New Zealand.
Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan heard the petition filed by a lawyer Munsif Awan.
During the hearing the petitioner counsel argued that Amir tarnished the image of Pakistan in the world by his involvement in spot fixing and subsequent conviction.
He contended that if Amir was allowed to represent the country then it would be a violation of law.
He pleaded the court to restrain the PCB from including the respondent player in the Pakistan squad for New Zealand series and also from joining training camps.
However PCB s counsel Tuffazal Rizvi argued that the ban imposed on Amir by the ICC had concluded and he also participated in rehabilitation programme.
He said that it was discretion of the board to select Amir for Pakistan squad or not and the court could not interfere in the matter.
He further said that Amir was not the first cricketer who started playing cricket after the ban many other examples were also available on record.
He maintained that the petition was filed for cheaper publicity and requested the court to dismiss it.
The court after hearing arguments of the parties dismissed the petition.
