Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has said that it busted a cell of Islamic State (IS) militants operating in Sialkot, a local media reported.

Eight suspects were arrested from Daska Tehsil of Sialkot, District of Punjab. Weapons, explosives and laptops, as well as a large number of compact discs containing publicity material were also seized.

Local media also reported that investigators claimed that the suspects had taken an oath to “overthrow democracy and introduce Khilafat in Pakistan through armed struggle”.

The suspects arrested by CTD belong to different districts of Punjab, but Sialkot served as the base of their operations. They had set up infrastructure in the district to carry out operations across the country.

Another local media reported that the suspects were running a cell in Daska to persuade and recruit new fighters for Syria and Iraq based Islamic State (IS) group.

  1. It could be a ploy to distract the Intelligent Agencies of the country. Many responsibles in the Government have denied any presence of IS in Pakistan.
