Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Central Executive Committee (CEC) on Sunday elected former president Asif Ali Zardari as president of PPP Parliamentarians.

Zardari succeeds Amin Faheem who passed away last month. According to details, the PPP CEC met after the main event of Benazir Bhutto’s death anniversary and unanimously elected Zardari as the president.

PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira announced the party’s decision. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the federation could not impose its decision on any province, adding that they would resist any extrajudicial act, whether it was Governor Rule or any other rule. He said that PPP had never been against Pakistan Army.

Former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said that PPP CEC had termed federation’s steps akin to weakening the center. He said that the Rangers had carried out the operation with Sindh government’s consent, adding that it was because of the Rangers that situation in the province had improved.
