PM due in city today

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will visit Karachi today (Monday) to discuss a host of issues including the Rangers’ policing powers with the provincial government which has recently been on warpath with the centre over alleged interference in its internal domain.

The Online has learnt that the premier will hold a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali to alley his reservation regarding extension of Rangers policing powers given the volatile law and order situation of the city.

The centre has issued a notification granting Sindh Rangers the powers to operate in Karachi for two months under the provision of the Anti-Terrorism Act despite a resolution passed by the provincial assembly seeking curtailment in its powers. Nawaz will also attend an award-distribution ceremony of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry to confer certificates and awards to traders.
