Afghan minister explains TAPI benefits to his senators

Afghan senators have summoned Minister of Mines and Petroleum Daud Shah Saba to provide more information on TAPI project which was signed on 13th of December, 2015, between President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Turkmenistan officials, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the India deputy president in Turkmenistan.

Afghan Minister of Mines and Petroleum Daud Shah Saba said: “Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India (TAPI) project will directly create 15,000 jobs indirectly. Afghanistan will benefit from TAPI in 2020.”

Security officials in Afghanistan have stated that despite security challenges they were ready to provide security vital for the said project.

The minister also talked about the challenges of the gas pipe line saying this project was one of the complicated projects which would be implemented among four countries. He expressed his optimism on Turkmenistan potentials to get all the issue resolved.

The Afghanistan National Unity government has welcomed the project and believed that it would boost the economy of the country. The TAPI gas pipe will pass 735 kilo meter from Afghanistan’s soil, and the Afghan government will benefit 400$ million annually.
