SPI-based weekly inflation eases 0.07%

The weekly inflation for the week ended on December 23 for the combined income group witnessed decrease of 0.07 percent as compared to the previous week.

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 218.38 points against 218.53 points registered in the previous week, according to data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Similarly, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review increased by 3.01 percent.

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-08=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

Meanwhile, the SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 8000 was also decreased by 0.02 percent as it went down from 209.35 points in the previous week to 209.31 points in the week under review.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-12,000, Rs 12,001-18,000  and 18,001-35,000 decreased by 0.04 percent, 0.051 percent, 0.07 percent and 0.09 percent respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 06 items registered decrease, while that of 17 items increased with the remaining 30 items’ prices unchanged.

The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included potatoes, onions, chicken (live), bananas, soap bath and vegetable ghee (loose).

The items which recorded increase in their average prices included tomatoes, garlic, sugar, pulse mash (washed), pulse gram (washed), LPG, gur, pulse moong, pulse masoor, wheat, wheat flour, fire wood, rice, red chilli, milk powder, eggs and tea.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice, bread, beef, mutton, milk fresh, mustard oil, curd, cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee (loose), salt powder, cooked beef, cooked dal, tea prepared cup, cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn, georgette, gents chappal, ladies chappal, electricity charges, gas charges, washing soap, match box, petrol, hi-speed diesel and telephone calls local.
