Indian premier Narendra Modi made a surprise visit to Pakistan on Friday on his way back to New Delhi from Kabul.
The premier came to Lahore where he was received by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and other Pakistani officials.
“Mr. Modi called PM Nawaz and expressed his desire to visit Pakistan on his way back from Kabul,” foreign secretary Aizaz Chaudhry told media in a briefing.
He said that it was a goodwill visit and the two sides decided to understand each other’s reservations and restart the comprehensive dialogue in a positive manner.
His visit was brief and he flew back on the same day. Modi and Nawaz also held a brief meeting at the PM’s Raiwind residence.
Earlier in the day Modi tweeted that he will be visiting Pakistan on his way back to Delhi.
Looking forward to meeting PM Nawaz Sharif in Lahore today afternoon, where I will drop by on my way back to Delhi.

This is the first time in more than a decade that an Indian premier visited Pakistan. Modi also expressed his gratitude to PM Nawaz on twitter.
Spent a warm evening with Sharif family at their family home. Nawaz Sahab’s birthday & granddaughter’s marriage made it a double celebration

Great stuff makes great men-Mr Modi and Shusma ji should be considered for nobel peace prize.Sometimes by- passing protocol achieves the desired results-and it is no big price to pay for peace.Let us not forget Nawaz Sharif for his persistence ,perseverance and quiet diplomacy.
This is a very good step by PM Modi ji but main thing is that both country have to pay attention for maintain relationship if again any terrorism or misunderstanding will rise then it will become double tough. i hope both county's media will enhance relationship of nation.. btw Pakistani Media is more anti Indian rather than Indian Media.
I agree with you dear neighbor
"Aur bhi gham hain zamane me – mohabbat ke siwa". The Kashmir problem could not be solved in almost seven decades and not likely to in another 100 years. But if relations are improved by dialogue, there are many other areas which can be beneficial for millions of poor people on both side of the border.
