After a break of over two decades, former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan is all set to make his return to cricketing activities with his appointment as the mentor of Pakistan Super League (PSL)’s franchise Peshawar Zalmi.

The former captain who won Pakistan the 1992 World Cup will mentor the Shahid Afridi-led squad.

“I am optimistic that my team will perform well in the tournament starting February next year in Dubai, said Javed Afridi, the franchise’s owner.

He said he was pleased with the team selection which was a blend of some fantastic T20 players and Zalmis.

The Zalmis are the young unsung heroes of KPK who have been included in the squad like Taj Wali, Israrullah and Imran Khan Junior.

“We hope to deliver to the best of our abilities in the tournament. The real work I feel starts now,” concluded the franchise owner.

Shahid Afridi was picked by Peshawar Zalmi as their iconic player after paying $75,000 to Islamabad United for having the first pick in the icon player category selection.

Other players in the franchise include Umar Gul, Imran Khan Junior, West Indian big hitting all-rounder Darren Sammy, left-arm fast bowlers Wahab Riaz and Junaid Khan, former T20 captain Muhammad Hafeez and explosive Bangaldesh opener Tamim Iqbal.
