National Accountability Bureau (NAB’s) investigation team reached Islamabad on Wednesday to probe the corruption case against the former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain.

According to details, the team held meetings with higher authorities of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Sui Southern and Northern.

The investigation team also questioned about the drilling of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) well and gas sale.

It is reported that OGRA did not issued any license regarding the above mentioned points.

Besides being accused of treating terrorists and target killers in his hospital on request of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) members, he is also blamed of permitting the drilling and selling of LPG.

Earlier, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) sent Dr Asim to jail on judicial remand granted until December 30.

Dr Asim’s wife was not allowed to enter the court premises. The accused will be presented before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on December 23.

However, the court stated Dr Asim would remain in NAB’s custody in money laundering case until his physical remand expires.

Dr Asim pleaded the court to not hand him over to NAB however, the court stated whatever happened to him is in the past. He could be sent to jail instead, it added.

The ATC on December 21 had rejected Sindh Police’s report in Dr Asim’s case that declared the accused innocent and freed him of all charges.

  1. Interesting situation. Dr Asim and his mentor (Mr 10%) on one side and the Central Government, the Courts (including Supreme Court) and Establishment on the other. The whole Provincial Assembly headed by the ex-bodyguard of Ali Baba (Zardari) has gone upside down to defend the Doctor who is sitting on a Pandora's box.
