INAUGURATION CAUSES CANCELLATION OF SURGERIES
Strict security arrangements for the guests at trauma centre inaugurated by Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday led to cancellation of several surgeries.
The programme scheduled for noon was delayed due to reasons known to the special guests including Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and other government functionaries.
In the meantime, all main entrance points to the Karachi’s main tertiary care hospital was closed as the much trumpeted facility was located on its premises and the guests being on terrorist’s target needed special security.
The scenario, however, led to severe inconvenience to the hundreds of patients visiting Civil Hospital Karachi as well as commuters plying on major arteries including MA Jinnah Road.
Dr Said Ahmed Qureishi, CHK Medical Superintendent, talking to APP regretted the trouble caused to the citizens due to presence of eminent personalities.
“It is mainly due to encroachments around the hospital that has restricted the mobility of the people, including patients visiting CHK,” he said.
Dr Qureishi said the KMC authorities had been reportedly informed about the situation but no action was taken by them.
About the reported incident of a child patient’s death due to closed gates of the hospital, he in most categorical terms said that no gate of CHK was closed.
Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Health, Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said that reported death of Bisma, resident of Lyari, was being investigated properly. “An action will definitely be taken against those responsible for the incident once its authenticity is established,” he said.
