Amid tension between the federal and Sindh governments on the Rangers’ issue, an accountability court on Wednesday remanded terror accused Dr Asim Hussain to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) custody for 14 days.
The former petroleum minister was presented before the accountability court in a money laundering case.
The investigation officer stated during the hearing that the alleged culprit had offered to return pieces of land acquired illegally while he was being interrogated. He also offered to register car parking area of Dr Ziauddin Hospital. The officer said that 50 per cent of the transactions were yet to be traced.
The counsel for the defendant said that his client would accept whatever court’s verdict would be. He further said that the NAB could not be given record of the hospital.
Earlier, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) had rejected the Sindh police’s report that freed Dr Asim of all terror charges. The accused was presented before the trial court number two which sent Dr Asim to jail on judicial remand until December 30.
Dr Asim is accused of providing medical treatment to terrorists and target killers belonging to political parties. The terror accused was appointed as chairman of Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC) after the general elections 2013. Pakistan Rangers had apprehended Dr Asim from HEC’s office on August 26.
The arrest was the first major anti-corruption step in Sindh when law enforcers nabbed a close confidant of Pakistan People’s Party’s co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari.
