The commander of Resolute Support Mission and United States Forces (USF) in Afghanistan, General John F Campbell, called on Army Chief General Raheel Sharif on Monday at General Headquarters (GHQ) to talk about regional peace and stability.
According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, the army chief and the US commander discussed peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan along with other matters of mutual interest.
Earlier this month, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, who visited Pakistan to attend the Heart of Asia Conference also met the COAS and emphasised upon the need of enhancing bilateral relations between both the countries and collectively eliminate the common threat of extremism.
ISPR had claimed that General Raheel had assured the Afghan president of full support in intelligence sharing, operational coordination and reconciliation process for bringing peace and stability in Afghanistan.
On the very same day, in a trilateral meeting, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the United States (US) agreed to explore and encourage all efforts for dialogue between the Afghanistan’s government and the insurgent Taliban groups.
