The Sindh government on Tuesday passed a condemnation resolution against the opposition for violating sanctity of the House.

Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani chaired a session of the assembly after three days on Tuesday. The Opposition approached the speaker’s dais and protested against the government.

The resolution was moved in context of recent tussle between the opposition and the government over Rangers’ matter of policing powers.

The opposition parties had demonstrated in the assembly against the delay in making decision by the Sindh government regarding extension of powers to Rangers. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) among others had announced to form an anti-PPP alliance.

On December 16, the Sindh government had extended Rangers’ policing powers on a condition that the paramilitary force would contact the chief minister (CM) before arresting a person who does not have direct links with terrorists.

Moreover, the conditional resolution demanded Rangers to acquire warrant before raiding a public office. Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar had denounced the development and said that Rangers should be given an unconditional authority under the Pakistan Protection Act.
