Govt committed to welfare of minorities: President

 

President Mamnoon Hussain said on Tuesday that the people of Pakistan would stand guard for protection of the minorities and leave no stone unturned for their welfare.

Addressing a Christmas dinner reception in connection with Christmas celebrations, the president said that Islamic teachings give clear directions to its followers to ensure protection of the minorities living in an Islamic state. He said the government was committed to the welfare of the minorities.

The president reiterated the government’s resolve to promote interfaith harmony by ensuring legal and constitutional rights of the people. He said that some elements were trying to disrupt the atmosphere of interfaith harmony, but they would be dealt with an iron hand. The event was also attended by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

President Mamnoon, speaking at a special ceremony ‘Quaid-e-Azam Aur Bache’, said it was new generation’s responsibility to safeguard democracy because only a democratic Pakistan could guarantee the nation’s bright future.

He expressed his confidence that the nation would not desist from rendering any sacrifices to protect the country’s freedom, integrity and stability. The president said that the purpose of commemorating Quaid-e-Azam’s birthday was to impress upon new generation that the country’s history was glorious and its future was bright. He called upon the children to acquire maximum education, uphold their moral values and bring glory to the country.
