Pakistan Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer, Senator Sirajul Haq has said that the Sindh government, through its step to curb the powers given to the Rangers, has harmed efforts for peace and stability in the province, especially in Karachi.

Speaking to JI workers and notables during Al-Khidmat Foundation Gujrat district president’s son on Sunday, Sirajul Haq said that the Sindh government wants both the operation and corruption to continue, which was not possible.

He said that crimes and lawlessness from Karachi could be eliminated only when the federal government, provincial government and armed forces were on the same page.

The JI ameer said that the Sindh government’s attitude about the operation was incomprehensible as the captain of the operation wanted to throw his men in a sea packed with crocodiles, with their hands tied.

He said that everybody wanted an operation of his or her own liking. Such an exercise only causes dissention and the actual criminals manage to escape, he added.

Sirajul Haq said that the PPP’s reservations on the Rangers operation surfaced only in the case of Dr Asim because earlier it had been extending all out support to the operation. He counselled the PPP not to make the operation a point of prestige and give preference to the restoration of lasting peace in the mega city, as it would be a source of satisfaction for people all over the country.

The JI chief said that the government enjoys a heavy mandate, but has burdened the masses with heavy prices. He said the IMF was forcing the rulers to raise the prices of some commodity before approving a fresh instalment for another loan. He said that from next month, the price of gas was being enhanced to an alarming level.

He said the prevailing system only suites the elite who were maintaining the status quo simply to serve their interests while the masses were there only to pay taxes and utilities bills.

  1. Yes, only the masses are there to pay taxes and bear the burden of IMF loans on loan. Those sitting in the Assemblies do not pay taxes – not even Utility bills. What he says of Karachi Operation is absolutely right. None should forget what could it mean if the Operation suffers as a result of this Ego tussle. More worst L&O situation than it was before start of the Operation.
