The word terrorism was missing from the Sindh government’s resolution granting an extension to the Rangers.

It was only in the second letter sent to the Federation that the word was added into the proposal. The document holds that Rangers powers will not be extended for four months, but only two. It also limits the powers that the Rangers are to have in Karachi.

The second letter proposes that the conditional powers to the paramilitary force will be meant for Karachi only.

It also proposed to cut down the term of extension in the special powers from four to two months (from December 6, 2015 to February 5, 2016).

Now it is at the discretion of the Federation to grant the special powers to Rangers either in light of the Sindh government’s proposal or the relevant law.

CHANDIO SAYS ‘WE ARE AFRAID OF NOTHING’

Sindh Information Advisor, Maula Bakhsh Chandio says that the Rangers mandate is not to take action against corruption and since the extension in paramilitary force’s powers was a constitutional matter, the provincial government took it to the Sindh Assembly.

In an interview with a local TV news channel, the provincial information advisor said that he had spoken to Sindh Rangers director general and that the latter only expressed reservations on two-three things.

“We are afraid of nothing,” Chandio clarified, adding that the same summary that the provincial government presented before the Sindh Assembly was dispatched to the Federation.
