MOU signed for imparting IT training to 7,000 youth: minister

Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has said that under short-term skill training programme, an MoU has been signed between Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC) and Punjab Schools Education Department to provide IT training to 7,000 youth of the province by providing them school labs in the evening classes.

Expression of interest has been published for skill training of 15,000 lady health workers and 7,000 health professionals. He stated this while presiding over a meeting of Skill Development Committee along with Minister Zakat and Ushr Malik Nadeem Kamran on Monday.

TEVTA Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh, secretaries and additional secretaries of Labour, Industries, Social Welfare, Zakat and Ushr and related departments, representatives from Project Implementation Unit, Punjab Skills Development Fund, TEVTA and PVTC attended the meeting. The meeting was informed that to meet the target of skill training of two billion youth of the province under Punjab Growth Strategy 2018, a vision of Chief Minister Punjab to empower youth for their demand based technical training and enhance labour export to GCC countries, all necessary steps have been taken with coordination of different departments.

Sarwar said this initiative of the Punjab government will not only increase the GDP contribution of the province but also increase opportunities of employment for youth not only in local industry but also in international labour market. The meeting was informed that 30 thousand village people will be trained in vaccination and animal insemination for better livestock growth and export activities. The meeting was apprised that ten MoUs have been signed between TEVTA and local industry for job based skill training as well as three MoUs with international companies of GCC countries are also under pipeline. Minister Zakat and Ushr Malik Nadeem Kamran directed Secretary Industries Nabeel Javed to take all-out efforts for provision of required funds for this skill training programme to avoid any delay in the process. The meeting decided that the period of short-term skill training programme will be from December 1, 2015 to May 31,2016.
